Buying Guide: Spill Containment Trays and Shelving Spill Containment Trays Made of Steel
The storage of drums and IBC containers in a pallet rack or drum rack is ideal for businesses needing to store large quantities of containers or save valuable space. To ensure the storage of hazardous materials is both safe and compliant with legal regulations, these hazardous material racks must be equipped with suitable spill containment trays.
What Shelving Spill Trays Are Available at MEILLER?
We offer spill containment trays for insertion between the shelf beams and shelving spill containment trays for placement beneath racks. Our trays are made of high-quality steel and meet the requirements of WHG and StawaR. Thanks to galvanization or coating, the steel trays are resistant to corrosion and the stored substances. Equipping a pallet rack with a steel spill containment tray allows the storage of flammable liquids and water-hazardous substances in the rack. For more information on which substances can be stored on each tray type, please refer to our media compatibility list.
Shelving Spill Containment Trays up to 1000 l Volume
Our shelving spill containment trays range from 240 liters for drum racks to 1000 liters for storage racks designed for IBC containers. Customers can choose between trays with or without a grating. The grating allows the tray itself to serve as an additional, practical storage level.
We offer suitable spill containment trays for different shelf widths. For shelving spill containment trays made of steel, we cover the two common widths of 1800 mm and 2700 mm. Should your rack have a non-standard dimension, we can custom-manufacture a spill containment tray to meet your needs.
Shelving spill containment trays made of steel are maneuverable and feature a practical foot design. This allows the steel tray to be forklift accessible, preventing contact corrosion from the ground.
Spill Containment Trays for Insertion into Shelf Beams
To catch leaks directly within the shelf level, we also offer practical spill containment trays that can be inserted between the shelf beams. These trays, like the shelving spill containment trays, are designed according to StawaR and WHG standards and are available in either coated or galvanized steel. Gratings for container placement are always included in the delivery. We also offer various sizes for shelf widths of 1800 mm and 2700 mm—custom sizes are, of course, no problem.
What Containment Volume Does the Spill Containment Tray Need to Have?
When planning your hazardous material rack, it is crucial to observe the WHG requirements for the necessary collection volume: at least 10% of the stored volume and the content of the largest stored container must be accommodated by the spill containment trays. For instance, if you store 9 x 200-liter drums in the rack (1800 liters total), the required collection volume is determined by the largest container, i.e., 200 liters. The tray must be able to hold at least 200 liters.
Should you have any questions about planning your hazardous material rack, our experts are, of course, ready to assist you. In the online shop, we also offer pre-configured hazardous material racks for the horizontal and vertical storage of drums or IBCs. These are purpose-designed for the safe storage of hazardous materials in compliance with WHG.
