What are the advantages of stainless steel as a material for spill pallets?
Stainless steel is particularly well-suited for hazardous material storage due to its exceptional material properties. It is corrosion-resistant and does not rust, even when storing aggressive chemicals. This makes stainless steel spill pallets highly durable and ideal for the storage of a wide range of hazardous substances, including flammable liquids, water-polluting substances of all water hazard classes, and aggressive chemicals. Additionally, stainless steel is particularly hygienic, making it suitable for industries such as food production, pharmaceuticals, and beverages.
What types of spill pallets are available at MEILLER?
As a German manufacturer and pioneer in the development of spill pallets made of steel and stainless steel, MEILLER offers the most extensive range of stainless steel spill pallets worldwide for hazardous material storage.
- Small Container Spill Pallets: For cans and jerrycans.
- Drum Spill Pallets: For 200-liter drums.
- Large Volume Spill Pallets: For storing IBC containers with capacities of up to 1000 liters.
MEILLER stainless steel spill pallets can accommodate between 1 and 12 drums. Drum spill pallets are available with straight pallet walls or in a stackable design with slanted walls.
New in the range: Intermediate sizes for storing 3, 6, or 12 x 200-liter drums. Also available are stainless steel IBC spill pallets that can hold up to 3 IBC containers side by side.
Configuration Options for Stainless Steel Spill Pallets
Each type of stainless steel spill pallet is available in four configurations:
- Material: Choose between stainless steel 1.4301 (V2A) and 1.4571 (V4A), depending on the application and stored substances.
- Grating: Select a galvanized steel grating or a stainless steel 1.4301 (V2A) grating as the support level.

MEILLER also offers custom stainless steel spill pallet designs. Every industry and application has unique challenges that may exceed the capabilities of standard stainless steel spill pallets. As a manufacturer, MEILLER welcomes these challenges and is happy to develop tailored solutions based on your specifications. Whether it’s custom sizes, shapes, or additional features, we are here to discuss your specific requirements and design a secure hazardous material storage solution.

How to Calculate the Required Spill Volume for Stainless Steel Spill Pallets?
Here’s a simple example:
- Stored containers: 4 x 200-liter drums = 800 liters
- 10% of total storage volume: 80 liters
- Largest container: 200-liter drum
- Required spill volume: 200 liters
- In water protection zones: 800 liters (100%)
Additional Considerations for Using Stainless Steel Spill Pallets
- Compatibility: Only store different hazardous substances together if there are no legal or chemical incompatibilities.
- Placement: Ensure spill pallets are set up on level surfaces and protected from rain to maintain their full spill capacity.
- Safety: Use bump guards depending on the site conditions. Stored containers should not extend beyond the edges of the spill pallet to ensure any leaks are safely contained. Dispensing should always occur above the pallet to capture drips and leaks.
Operator Responsibilities When Using Stainless Steel Spill Pallets
When using a stainless steel spill pallet, you are responsible for:
- Ensuring proper and intended use.
- Regular maintenance and inspection to prevent the accumulation of dirt or water.
- Immediate repair of surface corrosion.
- A biennial inspection with documentation that must be presented to the water authority upon request.
